First Time Managers — Coaching — The Balanced Path

You earned the role by doing the work. Now the work is other people.

First Time Managers is for people who led through their own output and now lead through a team. The skills that earned the promotion are not the skills the new role asks for, and the gap rarely gets named out loud. This route closes it deliberately, early enough to matter.

Who it is for

Capable people, newly responsible for others.

You were promoted because you were good at the work. The first months in charge ask for something different: setting direction, having the conversations no one enjoys, and being trusted by people who used to be your peers. Most organisations hand this over with a title and little else.

If you are in your first year of leading a team, or about to be, and you can feel the distance between how you used to add value and what the role now needs, this is built for you.

The change it produces

What is different by the end.

The aim is a defined change you can recognise, not a feeling of momentum. By the close of the work you should see it in four places.

Direction

You set expectations clearly and hold them without apologising for the role.

Difficult conversations

You address performance and tension early, while they are still small.

Authority

You carry the position with composure, including with former peers.

Judgement

You know which decisions are yours to make and which to delegate.

How it works

Time-bound, and built around outcomes.

The work is a defined engagement structured around the outcomes above, with application between sessions rather than open-ended discussion. You leave each conversation with something to put into practice and return with what it surfaced.

The typical shape is set at the first conversation, once the specific situation is clear.

Promotion is not preparation.

Where it fits

Honest about its edges.

Right whenThis is the right route when the challenge is the step into leading people for the first time.

Not the place forA problem in how the team or the wider organisation is structured. That is organisational work and sits with The Balanced House, and a first conversation will route you there cleanly.

Book a Conversation

A single, unhurried conversation to understand the situation and whether this route is the right place for it. No obligation, and an honest answer either way.
